Arimidex oral tablets consist of 1mg of Anastrozole (a non-steroidal aromatase inhibitor). It is an anti-cancer drug used for the initial treatment of breast cancer in post-menopausal women. Most breast cancers depend on the hormone estrogen for their growth. After menopause, the production of estrogen in the ovaries ceases, but it continues in the fatty tissues of the body. In general, this occurs when the aromatase enzyme converts other enzymes into estrogen. This type of breast cancer is often called estrogen receptor positive breast cancer.
Anastrozole is an aromatase inhibitor. It works by blocking an aromatase enzyme responsible for the production of estrogen in the body. Eventually, this will lead to reduction in tumor size or slowing of tumor growth in some women.
Weightlifters are also targeted by the use of Arimidex for bodybuilding to reduce the effects of anabolic androgenic steroids which often interact with estrogen leading to gynecomastia otherwise known as enlarged breasts in men.
When is it used?
In general, this drug is used after surgery and other treatments to help reduce the risk of early breast cancer returning.It is also used to control breast cancer that has spread to other parts of the body, also called secondary breast cancer.
Dosage of Arimidex
Arimidex is taken as a tablet once a day at the same time each day, morning and evening. However, there are certain conditions that must be met during the treatment period:
• If you forget to take the tablet, take it as soon as you remember unless you need to take the second dose. Remember that you should never take a double dose.
• Keep the tablets in a safe place, out of the reach of children.
• Store the tablets at room temperature, away from direct light and heat.
Side effects of Arimidex

• Mood swings, depression and trouble sleeping, also called insomnia
• Mild rash
• Nausea, vomiting
